Ophthalmological treatment of early-onset sarcoidosis/Blau syndrome in a Colombian child: A case report

Purpose: To report the ophthalmological approach of a patient with Blau syndrome (BS) in Colombia. Observations: We describe a 9-year-old Colombian boy with sporadic BS due to a de novo nucleotide-binding oligomerization domain containing 2 (NOD2) mutation, who presented with joint and dermatologic...

Observations: We describe a 9-year-old Colombian boy with sporadic BS due to a de novo nucleotide-binding oligomerization domain containing 2 (NOD2) mutation, who presented with joint and dermatologic symptoms. He was referred to the uveitis service with a single functional eye, due to retinal detachment in the other eye. Despite treatment with corticosteroids, methotrexate, and adalimumab, the patient continued to exhibit progressive disease. Conclusion: BS-related uveitis is characterized by severe ocular morbidity. Appropriate interdisciplinary treatment is necessary for the correct identification and management of the disease, considering the inherent difficulty in its diagnosis due to its diverse clinical manifestations. The severity of BS-related uveitis in this report highlights the need for more effective therapies. © 2020application/pdfhttps://doi.org/10.1016/j.ajoc.2020.10071424519936https://repository.urosario.edu.co/handle/10336/24163engElsevier IncAmerican Journal of Ophthalmology Case ReportsVol. 18American Journal of Ophthalmology Case Reports, ISSN:24519936, Vol.18,(2020)https://www.scopus.com/inward/record.uri?eid=2-s2.0-85083303928&doi=10.1016%2fj.ajoc.2020.100714&partnerID=40&md5=176fd77ad9ebba2b446b23aa43c90a66Abierto (Texto Completo)http://purl.org/coar/access_right/c_abf2instname:Universidad del Rosarioreponame:Repositorio Institucional EdocURAdalimumabArginineC reactive proteinFolic acidMethotrexatePrednisoloneTryptophanAnemiaAnterior eye segmentAphakiaArthritisArticleBand keratopathyBest corrected visual acuityBlau syndromeBlunt traumaCase reportCataractCataract extractionChildClinical articleColombianConjunctival hyperemiaElbowErythrocyte sedimentation rateEye examinationEye fundusFemaleFeverFollow upGene mutationGenetic analysisGenetic variabilityGranulomaHumanHuman tissueHyphemaInterphalangeal jointJoint biopsyKneeLaborLeg diseaseMetacarpophalangeal jointMotherNuclear magnetic resonance imagingOligomerizationOphthalmologistPannusPremature laborProtein blood levelRashRelapseRetina detachmentRheumatologistSarcoidosisSchool childSkin defectTenosynovitisThrombocytosisUveitisVitrectomyVitreous body detachmentVitritisWristArthritisBlau syndromePanuveitisRetinal detachmentTherapyOphthalmological treatment of early-onset sarcoidosis/Blau syndrome in a Colombian child: A case reportarticleArtículohttp://purl.org/coar/version/c_970fb48d4fbd8a85http://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_6501Marín-Noriega, María AlejandraMuñoz-Ortiz, JulianaMosquera, Catalinade-la-Torre, AlejandraORIGINAL1-s2-0-S2451993619301203-main.pdfapplication/pdf839799https://repository.urosario.edu.co/bitstreams/b71b91a2-ac9c-481e-8610-1713981a1310/downloade81cdd86e4f6e52f2b54b4e80ae9d4a1MD51TEXT1-s2-0-S2451993619301203-main.pdf.txt1-s2-0-S2451993619301203-main.pdf.txtExtracted texttext/plain18815https://repository.urosario.edu.co/bitstreams/1abede73-97ed-4895-adfa-acd16652db68/download5b7a9b5025f32a190693ca37a9813048MD52THUMBNAIL1-s2-0-S2451993619301203-main.pdf.jpg1-s2-0-S2451993619301203-main.pdf.jpgGenerated Thumbnailimage/jpeg4836https://repository.urosario.edu.co/bitstreams/9774b1a1-938a-445e-ba9d-ef4b3331a1da/download94f95ad8b91bd649adcd19eda45cc2b1MD5310336/24163oai:repository.urosario.edu.co:10336/241632022-05-02 07:37:15.978292https://repository.urosario.edu.coRepositorio institucional EdocURedocur@urosario.edu.co
