We report three cases of bilateral herpetic anterior uveitis. Methods: We evaluated three patients who presented with clinical manifestations of bilateral uveitis suggestive of viral origin. Results: We found intraocular hypertension, cells in the anterior chamber, paralytic mydriasis, iris atrophy with transillumination defects, and variable anterior vitreous cellularity. According to the clinical findings, supported with herpes-specific antibody titers and aqueous humor PCR results in two of them, they were diagnosed with bilateral anterior herpetic uveitis. Conclusions: Our patients were initially misdiagnosed as having non-infectious uveitis and were treated with immunomodulatory medications, which could have favored the extension of infection bilaterally. Although uncommon, bilateral herpetic uveitis should always be considered in the differential diagnoses, when patients present with hypertensive uveitis in both eyes. © Taylor and Francis Group, LLC.application/pdfhttps://doi.org/10.3109/09273948.2016.11425729273948https://repository.urosario.edu.co/handle/10336/22715engTaylor and Francis Ltd502No. 4497Ocular Immunology and InflammationVol. 25Ocular Immunology and Inflammation, ISSN:9273948, Vol.25, No.4 (2017); pp. 497-502https://www.scopus.com/inward/record.uri?eid=2-s2.0-84961390145&doi=10.3109%2f09273948.2016.1142572&partnerID=40&md5=198b655a46d803737e44847f083a9f22Abierto (Texto Completo)http://purl.org/coar/access_right/c_abf2instname:Universidad del Rosarioreponame:Repositorio Institucional EdocURAcetazolamideAciclovirAntibodyAtropineBelimumabBrimonidineCorticosteroidCyclophosphamideCyclosporinCytomegalovirus antibodyDorzolamideHepatitis b surface antigenHydroxychloroquine sulfateImmunoglobulin gMethotrexatePrednisolone acetatePrednisoneSteroidTacrolimusValaciclovirAntivirus agentVirus antibodyAdultAnterior eye chamberAntibody titerAqueous humorArthralgiaArticleAstigmatismBest corrected visual acuityBlurred visionCase reportClinical articleClinical evaluationClinical featureConjunctival hyperemiaCornea ulcerDiagnostic errorDrug dose reductionDrug substitutionDrug withdrawalEpiretinal membraneEye painFemaleGenital herpesHeadacheHerpes simplexHerpes simplex virusHumanHuman alphaherpesvirus 1Intraocular hypertensionIridocyclitisIris atrophyKeratectomyKeratoplastyLumbar punctureMaleMeningitisMiddle agedMydriasisPhotophobiaPolymerase chain reactionPseudophakiaRashSjoegren syndromeSlit lampSystemic lupus erythematosusTransillumination defectTreatment responseVomitingAtrophyBloodCombination drug therapyHerpes simplexHerpes simplex virus 2Intraocular hypertensionIridocyclitisIrisIsolation and purificationMydriasisPathologyViral eye infectionVirologyAdultAnterior chamberAntiviral agentsAqueous humorAtrophyFemaleHerpes simplexHumansIrisMaleMiddle agedMydriasisOcular hypertensionAnteriorBilateralHerpes simplex virus (hsv)HerpeticUveitisviralviralhumancombinationanteriorhumanAntibodiesDrug therapyEye infectionsHerpesvirus 1Herpesvirus 2UveitisBilateral Herpes Simplex Uveitis: Review of the Literature and Own Reports?articleArtículohttp://purl.org/coar/version/c_970fb48d4fbd8a85http://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_6501de-la-Torre, AlejandraValdes-Camacho J.Foster C.S.10336/22715oai:repository.urosario.edu.co:10336/227152022-05-02 07:37:15.953175https://repository.urosario.edu.coRepositorio institucional EdocURedocur@urosario.edu.co |
