Design: Narrative review and expert recommendations. Methods: Meta-analysis and selected original articles from the medical literature were reviewed critically. Expert recommendations were analyzed. Results: Numerous observational studies suggest a benefit of short-term antimicrobial therapy for toxoplasmic retinochoroiditis in immunocompetent patients, although its efficacy has not been proven in randomized clinical trials. A randomized clinical trial revealed that intermittent trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole treatment could decrease the rate of recurrence in high-risk patients. Intravitreal injection of clindamycin and dexamethasone was an acceptable alternative to the classic treatment for OT in a randomized clinical trial. Conclusions: Opinions about therapy differ and controversy remains about its type, efficacy, and length. Intravitreal therapy may be promising for OT. A recent description of the presence of parasitemia in patients with active and inactive ocular toxoplasmosis raises new questions that need to be explored.application/pdfhttps://doi.org/10.3109/09273948.2011.608915ISSN: 0927-3948EISSN: 1744-5078https://repository.urosario.edu.co/handle/10336/28441engInternational Uveitis Study GroupUveitis Society of India320No. 5314Ocular Immunology and InflammationVol. 19Ocular Immunology and Inflammation, ISSN: 0927-3948;EISSN: 1744-5078, Vol. 19, No. 5 (2011); pp. 314-320https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/abs/10.3109/09273948.2011.608915Restringido (Acceso a grupos específicos)http://purl.org/coar/access_right/c_16ecOcular Immunology and Inflammationinstname:Universidad del Rosarioreponame:Repositorio Institucional EdocURAntibioticsOcular toxoplasmosisRecurrencesSteroidsTherapyTreatmentUveitisTherapy for ocular toxoplasmosisTerapia para la toxoplasmosis oculararticleArtículohttp://purl.org/coar/version/c_970fb48d4fbd8a85http://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_6501de-la-Torre, AlejandraStanford, MilesCuri, AndreJaffe, Glenn J.Gomez-Marin, Jorge E.10336/28441oai:repository.urosario.edu.co:10336/284412021-08-26 06:37:10.837https://repository.urosario.edu.coRepositorio institucional EdocURedocur@urosario.edu.co
