Even though agents do not value conspicuous goods per se, they are competing in a signalling race in order to benefit from social interactions within a community. First, we study the equilibria of this model defining the optimal strategies and the equilibrium partition that characterizes pooling and separating equilibria. In a second step, as conspicuous consumption is a pure waste of money, we study a possible Pareto–improving taxation policy.application/pdfhttps://doi.org/10.1111/1467-9779.00119ISSN: 1097-3923EISSN: 1467-9779https://repository.urosario.edu.co/handle/10336/27419engJohn Wiley & SonBlackwell Publishing24No. 11Journal of Public Economic TheoryVol. 5Journal of Public Economic Theory, ISSN: 1097-3923;EISSN: 1467-9779, Vol.5, No.1 (January 2003); pp. 1-24https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/epdf/10.1111/1467-9779.00119Restringido (Acceso a grupos específicos)http://purl.org/coar/access_right/c_16ecJournal of Public Economic Theoryinstname:Universidad del Rosarioreponame:Repositorio Institucional EdocURConsumer EconomicsTheoryAsymmetric and private informationMechanism designSocial choiceClubsCommitteesAssociationsEconomic sociologyEconomic anthropologyLanguageSocial and economic stratificationConspicuous consumption and social segmentationConsumo conspicuo y segmentación socialarticleArtículohttp://purl.org/coar/version/c_970fb48d4fbd8a85http://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_6501Jaramillo Mejía, FernandoMoizeau, Fabien10336/27419oai:repository.urosario.edu.co:10336/274192021-09-03 06:30:22.255https://repository.urosario.edu.coRepositorio institucional EdocURedocur@urosario.edu.co
