Epidemiologic and clinical data remain patchy in general, and in some countries the information available is very limited. Histoplasmosis has a significant public health impact in susceptible populations such as immunosuppressed individuals, in whom the disease is associated with poor outcomes. Limited availability of diagnostic tools in many regions of Latin America is an additional problem, as many patients are already severely ill by the time of the diagnosis. Efforts are therefore necessary to ensure early diagnosis and appropriate treatment, limit the severity of the disease manifestations, and reduce morbidity and mortality. This paper reviews important aspects of the epidemiology of histoplasmosis, the most clinically significant endemic mycosis in Latin America. © Springer Science+Business Media, LLC 2011.application/pdfhttps://doi.org/10.1007/s12281-011-0073-7193637611936377Xhttps://repository.urosario.edu.co/handle/10336/23804engCurrent Medicine Group LLC 1205No. 4199Current Fungal Infection ReportsVol. 5Current Fungal Infection Reports, ISSN:19363761, 1936377X, Vol.5, No.4 (2011); pp. 199-205https://www.scopus.com/inward/record.uri?eid=2-s2.0-84905086810&doi=10.1007%2fs12281-011-0073-7&partnerID=40&md5=38b4883b67d5dba01673b7bc70935809Abierto (Texto Completo)http://purl.org/coar/access_right/c_abf2instname:Universidad del Rosarioreponame:Repositorio Institucional EdocURAcquired immunodeficiency syndromeAIDSCentral AmericaClinical presentationEndemic mycosesEpidemiologyHistoplasma capsulatumHistoplasmosisHIVLatin AmericaSouth AmericaSurveillanceHistoplasmosis: Epidemiology in Latin AmericaarticleArtículohttp://purl.org/coar/version/c_970fb48d4fbd8a85http://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_6501Gómez B.L.10336/23804oai:repository.urosario.edu.co:10336/238042022-05-02 07:37:21.216888https://repository.urosario.edu.coRepositorio institucional EdocURedocur@urosario.edu.co
