Evaluating the effect of aging on interference resolution with time-varying complex networks analysis

In this study we used graph theory analysis to investigate age-related reorganization of functional networks during the active maintenance of information that is interrupted by external interference. Additionally, we sought to investigate network differences before and after averaging network parame...

Additionally, we sought to investigate network differences before and after averaging network parameters between both maintenance and interference windows. We compared young and older adults by measuring their magnetoencephalographic recordings during an interference-based working memory task restricted to successful recognitions. Data analysis focused on the topology/temporal evolution of functional networks during both the maintenance and interference windows. We observed that: (a) Older adults require higher synchronization between cortical brain sites in order to achieve a successful recognition, (b) The main differences between age groups arise during the interference window, (c) Older adults show reduced ability to reorganize network topology when interference is introduced, and (d) Averaging network parameters leads to a loss of sensitivity to detect age differences. © 2015 Ariza, Solesio-Jofre, Martínez, Pineda-Pardo, Niso, Maestú and Buldú.application/pdfhttps://doi.org/10.3389/fnhum.2015.002551662-5161https://repository.urosario.edu.co/handle/10336/21438engNo. MAYFrontiers in Human NeuroscienceVol. 9Frontiers in Human Neuroscience, ISSN: 1662-5161 Vol. 9, No. MAY (2015)https://www.frontiersin.org/articles/10.3389/fnhum.2015.00255/fullAbierto (Texto Completo)http://purl.org/coar/access_right/c_abf2instname:Universidad del Rosarioreponame:Repositorio Institucional EdocURFunción del cerebroFunción del sistema nervioso centralEstudio controladoSincronización corticalPromoción de salud613600Complex networks of the brainBrain functionCentral nervous system functionControlled studyCortical synchronizationEnvejecimientoCerebroSistema nervioso centralEvaluating the effect of aging on interference resolution with time-varying complex networks analysisarticleArtículohttp://purl.org/coar/version/c_970fb48d4fbd8a85http://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_6501Ariza Bono, PedroSolesio-Jofre, ElenaMartínez, Johann H.Pineda-Pardo, José ÁngelNiso, GiomarMaestú, FernandoBuldú, JavierAriza, PedroSolesio-Jofre, ElenaMartínez, Johann H.Pineda-Pardo, José A.Niso, GuiomarMaestú, FernandoBuldú, Javier M.ORIGINALEvaluating_the_effect_of_aging_on_interference_resolution_with_time-varying_complex_networks_analysis.pdfapplication/pdf3397407https://repository.urosario.edu.co/bitstreams/a458e81f-a220-4079-bcf7-701fd3e40f7f/download4d9ff6638816cb9f0cee0a472a8bbe66MD51TEXTEvaluating_the_effect_of_aging_on_interference_resolution_with_time-varying_complex_networks_analysis.pdf.txtEvaluating_the_effect_of_aging_on_interference_resolution_with_time-varying_complex_networks_analysis.pdf.txtExtracted texttext/plain70267https://repository.urosario.edu.co/bitstreams/0d07ae7a-6968-4e91-a807-b473fa547e74/downloadf65c86850de91ab0411223d4300564ffMD52THUMBNAILEvaluating_the_effect_of_aging_on_interference_resolution_with_time-varying_complex_networks_analysis.pdf.jpgEvaluating_the_effect_of_aging_on_interference_resolution_with_time-varying_complex_networks_analysis.pdf.jpgGenerated Thumbnailimage/jpeg4350https://repository.urosario.edu.co/bitstreams/96814350-2def-4de0-b2fc-83715da2f6ba/download1f7559785d5b3e326099669f9393ddccMD5310336/21438oai:repository.urosario.edu.co:10336/214382020-05-13 14:49:12.272https://repository.urosario.edu.coRepositorio institucional EdocURedocur@urosario.edu.co
