The historical case of the Panama Canal and the contemporary proposals for a dry canal in Colombia are employed. The essay evidences its position with secondary sources, newspaper articles, NGO reports, and media sources. The results reveal that megaprojects for interoceanity include complex entanglements of actors and ideas about nature and local populations. The imperial role of the U.S. is key to understanding the emergence and construction of the Panama Canal. Even so, studies of the contemporary enlargement of the Canal include the interplay of other factors, such as patriotism and conservation policies used by the Panamanian government and enterprises to support interoceanity. The Colombian case reveals contradictions between the policies that grant territorial rights to local communities identifying them as forest stewards and those that seek capital support from China to construct a dry canal. Within neoliberal globalization, there is a trivialization of environmental ends and policies that has been articulated to coordinate with the construction of megaprojects.application/pdfISSN: 1867-1519https://repository.urosario.edu.co/handle/10336/27650engForum for Inter-American Research67No. 344Forum for Interamerican ResearchVol. 8Forum for Inter-American Research, ISSN: 1867-1519 , Vol.8 No.3 (Dec 2015); pp. 44-67https://d1wqtxts1xzle7.cloudfront.net/45393756/Baquero-FIAR_interoceanity.pdf?1462504301=&response-content-disposition=inline%3B+filename%3DEntanglements_Nature_and_Inequalities_in.pdf&Expires=1596727127&Signature=Yl-bCwGRyckuGy-cX8XLuSPZrthn-rGCS7DkOFtTt-TmCojb7wP0vaHHT6K-Kcn82K2~HDKYt0H45w1omPQGNBDudwzoYHdKuKO~Yek7hN1UKRAoz7tJRdPl6BvJIsS2wel0BXOBwLzIgwrtSGbiU4mMBnvEP7lbHu-5xE1K9buiwlRlwKeEhTiXIfFOyokG11JOr~hqZSYgBOlMl~lMlHoO54OLE~XZtqbwycM~PC9veqET0axumdkHBJgMfJ3KxOcmkqyPH~w4V7R5Y9J5IyGjtoRi4QhK2Kn8slyoTvIwi-pqtrnOoFJrKTmcLpOoQR2lhFfVwWmlu9VI2HMXtg__&Key-Pair-Id=APKAJLOHF5GGSLRBV4ZAAbierto (Texto Completo)http://purl.org/coar/access_right/c_abf2Forum for Interamerican Researchinstname:Universidad del Rosarioreponame:Repositorio Institucional EdocURInteroceanityEntanglementsPanama CanalMegacitiesEnvironmentNatureEntanglements, Nature, and Inequalities in the Darien: Analyzing Interoceanity in Panama and ColombiaEnredos, naturaleza y desigualdades en el Darién: analizando la interoceanidad en Panamá y ColombiaarticleArtículohttp://purl.org/coar/version/c_970fb48d4fbd8a85http://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_6501Baquero Melo, Jairo10336/27650oai:repository.urosario.edu.co:10336/276502020-08-19 09:43:09.775https://repository.urosario.edu.coRepositorio institucional EdocURedocur@urosario.edu.co
