Aim: To investigate the association of FTO gene with adiposity markers in Chilean adults. Material and Methods: 409 participants were included in this cross-sectional study. The association between FTO (rs9939609) genotype and adiposity markers was determined using linear regression analyses. Adiposity markers included were: body weight, body mass index, fat mass, waist circumference, hip circumference and waist/hip ratio. Results: A fully adjusted model showed a significant association between FTO genotype and body weight (2.16 kg per each extra copy of the risk allele [95% confidence intervals (CI): 0.45 to 3.87], p = 0.014), body mass index (0.61 kg.m(-2) [95% CI: 0.12 to 1.20], p = 0.050) and fat mass (1.14% [95% CI: 0.39 to 1.89], p = 0.010). The greater magnitude of association was found between the FTO gene and fat mass when the outcomes were standardized to z-score. Conclusions: This study confirms an association between the FTO gene and adiposity markers in Chilean adults, which is independent of major confounding factors.application/pdf0034-98870717-6163https://repository.urosario.edu.co/handle/10336/25061spaSociedad Medica de Santiago726No. 6717REVISTA MEDICA DE CHILEVol. 146REVISTA MEDICA DE CHILE, ISSN:0034-9887 ; 0717-6163, Vol.146, No.6 (2018); pp. 717-726Abierto (Texto Completo)http://purl.org/coar/access_right/c_abf2instname:Universidad del Rosarioreponame:Repositorio Institucional EdocURAdiposidadAlfa-cetoglutarato-dependiente dioxigenasa FTOGenotipoObesidadObesidadGenePoblaciónInfanciaVariantesNiñosPesoAdiposityAlpha-Ketoglutarate-Dependent Dioxygenase FTOGenotypeObesityObesityGenePopulationChildhoodVariantsChildrenWeightAsociación entre genotipos FTO (ns9939609) y marcadores de adiposidad en adultos chilenosAssociation between FTO (ns9939609) genotype and adiposity markers in Chilean adultsarticleArtículohttp://purl.org/coar/version/c_970fb48d4fbd8a85http://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_6501Petermann, FannyVillagran, MarceloTroncoso, ClaudiaMardones, LorenaMaria Leiva, AnaAdela Martinez, MariaAlexgarrido-MendezFelipepoblete-ValderramaSalas-Bravo, CarlosUlloa, NataliaPerez-Bravo, FranciscoCelis-Morales, CarlosRamírez-Vélez, RobinsonORIGINAL0034-9887-rmc-146-06-0717.pdfapplication/pdf644049https://repository.urosario.edu.co/bitstreams/ab679990-fa09-4905-84a9-49bb791afe6e/downloaddf8940a860d7446184c8a262d1af42f1MD51TEXT0034-9887-rmc-146-06-0717.pdf.txt0034-9887-rmc-146-06-0717.pdf.txtExtracted texttext/plain38627https://repository.urosario.edu.co/bitstreams/d3b9a645-8b61-42fa-beba-0c4bde4451b3/download52aed42cec24013e0c1a42d9287d6acfMD52THUMBNAIL0034-9887-rmc-146-06-0717.pdf.jpg0034-9887-rmc-146-06-0717.pdf.jpgGenerated Thumbnailimage/jpeg4655https://repository.urosario.edu.co/bitstreams/efa79ba1-878c-4372-9f33-535a928b6e44/downloadd23c023ede15a01901151806b1cbb9e3MD5310336/25061oai:repository.urosario.edu.co:10336/250612021-06-03 00:50:53.415https://repository.urosario.edu.coRepositorio institucional EdocURedocur@urosario.edu.co
