High frequency of toxigenic Clostridium difficile and Clostridium perfringens coinfection among diarrheic patients at health care facility-onset (HCFO) and community-onset (CO) centers in Bogotá, Colombia
Background: The aim of this study was to evaluate the frequency of toxigenic C. difficile and C. perfringens infections at health care facility-onset (HCFO) and community-onset (CO), in two health care centers (HCC) in Bogotá, Colombia. A total of 220 stool samples from patients presenting diarrhea...

A total of 220 stool samples from patients presenting diarrhea acquired at HCFO or CO were analyzed by several PCR tests. Results: We found that 65.5% (n = 144) of the population had C. difficile infection, followed by toxigenic C. difficile with 57.3% (n = 126), and finally toxigenic C. perfringens with a frequency of 32.7% (n = 72). Conclusions: This study is the first molecular detection and characterization of C. difficile and C. perfringens in HCFO and CO in Latin America and demonstrates a relevant frequency of these two species, including coinfection and strikingly diverse toxigenic profiles, especially in the CO. © 2019 The Author(s).application/pdfhttps://doi.org/10.1186/s13099-019-0308-717574749https://repository.urosario.edu.co/handle/10336/24176engBioMed Central Ltd.No. 1Gut PathogensVol. 11Gut Pathogens, ISSN:17574749, Vol.11, No.1 (2019)https://www.scopus.com/inward/record.uri?eid=2-s2.0-85066861681&doi=10.1186%2fs13099-019-0308-7&partnerID=40&md5=0a5547b9ff430f62bebc6e4df9e01d57Abierto (Texto Completo)http://purl.org/coar/access_right/c_abf2instname:Universidad del Rosarioreponame:Repositorio Institucional EdocURClostridium difficileClostridium perfringensCommunity-onsetDiarrheaHealth care facility onsetHigh frequency of toxigenic Clostridium difficile and Clostridium perfringens coinfection among diarrheic patients at health care facility-onset (HCFO) and community-onset (CO) centers in Bogotá, ColombiaarticleArtículohttp://purl.org/coar/version/c_970fb48d4fbd8a85http://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_6501Forero, Alex J.Muñoz, MarinaCamargo, MilenaSoto-De León, Sara C.Ríos-Chaparro, Dora I.Birchenall, ClaudiaPinilla, DaríoPardo Oviedo, Juan MauricioJosa, Diego F.Patarroyo, Manuel A.Ramírez, Juan DavidORIGINALs13099-019-0308-7.pdfapplication/pdf1306685https://repository.urosario.edu.co/bitstreams/e817981d-e914-4fd6-979c-554f760d5197/download8f25455ea636d1db3f2d4a65f71d814cMD51TEXTs13099-019-0308-7.pdf.txts13099-019-0308-7.pdf.txtExtracted texttext/plain21378https://repository.urosario.edu.co/bitstreams/7c800083-3fe8-4868-840f-2b40d6dcc59c/downloade94a54e3fdf85f23174c6bb2b6005e29MD52THUMBNAILs13099-019-0308-7.pdf.jpgs13099-019-0308-7.pdf.jpgGenerated Thumbnailimage/jpeg5046https://repository.urosario.edu.co/bitstreams/8668e65d-105a-4af1-a81c-9d9cc0b79580/downloadb6df2a089b296059c7d643eeaf38a57aMD5310336/24176oai:repository.urosario.edu.co:10336/241762022-05-02 07:37:16.53211https://repository.urosario.edu.coRepositorio institucional EdocURedocur@urosario.edu.co |
