Antibiotic prophylaxis in flexible ureterorenoscopy with negative urine culture
Objective: To improve susceptibility profiles of nosocomial bacteria, identifying the difference between infectious complications in patients undergoing endoscopic flexible ureterolithotomy (fURS) with negative urine culture (UC) that received extended antibiotic prophylaxis (EP) compared with stand...

We include patients with susccessfull fURS, 20-mm stones and complete information. Results: Overall, 10.3% of patients had complications, 7.2% of patients had postoperative urinary infection, 1.8% had upper urinary tract infection (UTI) and 1.4% had urinary sepsis. Lower UTI were significantly more likely in the extended prophylaxis group with 6.8% versus 2.7% (RR = 2.8; 95% CI: 1.10-7.37, p = 0.030). The risk of upper UTI and sepsis did not show significant differences. A total of 69% patients with postoperative infection had isolated multidrug-resistant bacteria (MDRB) in the UC, with a higher risk in patients with extended prophylaxis (RR = 3.1; 95% CI: 1.33-7.59, p = 0.009).Conclusions: Patients with negative UC who underwent fURS using extended prophylaxis have two times higher risk of low UTI than patients with standard prophylaxis, without differences in the incidence of upper UTI or urinary sepsis. The risk of MDRB isolation in the postoperative UC is higher in the extended prophylaxis group, therefore we recommend the standard 60-min preoperative prophylaxis. Keywords: antibiotics; bacteria; infections; sepsis; urolithiasis.application/pdf10.1002/bco2.2422688-4526https://repository.urosario.edu.co/handle/10336/42092engUniversidad del Rosariohttps://bjui-journals.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1002/bco2.242Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 InternationalAbierto (Texto Completo)https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/http://purl.org/coar/access_right/c_abf2BJUI compassinstname:Universidad del Rosarioreponame:Repositorio Institucional EdocURNosocomial bacteriaInfectious complicationsAntibiotic prophylaxisAntibiotic prophylaxis in flexible ureterorenoscopy with negative urine culturearticleArtículohttp://purl.org/coar/version/c_970fb48d4fbd8a85http://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_6501Méndez-Guerrero, Daniela MaríaBuitrago-Carrascal, ChristianPuentes-Bernal, Andrés FelipeCruz-Arévalo, Dilma AlexandraCalderón, Marcelo AndrésÁlvarez-Restrepo, Juan CamiloBrijaldo-Carvajal, Mayra AlejandraPerdomo-Bernal, NataliaMoreno-Matson, María CarolinaIbañez Pinilla, MilciadesVergara, José DazaORIGINALAntibiotic prophylaxis in flexible.pdfapplication/pdf262926https://repository.urosario.edu.co/bitstreams/a8330137-ad80-4d63-b916-43832ac3654b/downloadb83fc8265f3c16abf614242a119d29ddMD51TEXTAntibiotic prophylaxis in flexible.pdf.txtAntibiotic prophylaxis in flexible.pdf.txtExtracted texttext/plain37009https://repository.urosario.edu.co/bitstreams/afcc3d84-7be9-4699-81df-0708da5220e6/download951deb6c9e9af2dd86189946076c64b7MD52THUMBNAILAntibiotic prophylaxis in flexible.pdf.jpgAntibiotic prophylaxis in flexible.pdf.jpgGenerated Thumbnailimage/jpeg4482https://repository.urosario.edu.co/bitstreams/97c84192-be9e-4510-a4c9-6c7cf131f738/download2f522c1ace12f10a77d5a59285483440MD5310336/42092oai:repository.urosario.edu.co:10336/420922024-02-01 03:00:39.025https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 Internationalhttps://repository.urosario.edu.coRepositorio institucional EdocURedocur@urosario.edu.co |
