Methods: Cross-sectional analysis based on clinical charts of patients examined during the period of September 2005 to July 2008 at the University medical centre in Quindio (Colombia). Patients with retinochoroidal lesions consistent with Toxoplasma infection were included. Comparisons were made with an index of recurrences adjusted for months of follow-up or of the available data of periods with and without recurrences Results: The clinical charts of 56 patients were analysed. In total, 25 patients (44%) were seen during an active episode, and 31 patients during inactive periods. There were 25 patients (44%) without episodes of recurrence. The total number of recurrences was 80 episodes. The mean number of recurrences was of two recurrences each 11 years. Adjusted recurrences index indicated that the most important factors associated with recurrence were previous therapy with steroids without antibiotics and previous subconjunctival injection of steroids. Conclusions: The use of systemic steroids without antibiotics and subconjunctival injection of steroids were identified as the main factors related to recurrence in this group of patients.application/pdfhttp://dx.doi.org/10.1136/bjo.2008.155861ISSN: 0007-1161EISSN: 1468-2079https://repository.urosario.edu.co/handle/10336/27755engBMJ Publishing4No. 81001British Journal of OphthalmologyVol. 93British Journal of Ophthalmology, ISSN: 0007-1161;EISSN: 1468-2079, Vol.93, No.8 (Aug. 2009); pp. 1001-4https://bjo.bmj.com/content/93/8/1001.longRestringido (Acceso a grupos específicos)http://purl.org/coar/access_right/c_16ecBritish Journal of Ophthalmologyinstname:Universidad del Rosarioreponame:Repositorio Institucional EdocURPrednisolone administration & dosageSocioeconomic FactorsToxoplasmosisocularFrequency and factors associated with recurrences of ocular toxoplasmosis in a referral centre in ColombiaFrecuencia y factores asociados a las recurrencias de toxoplasmosis ocular en un centro de referencia en ColombiaarticleArtículohttp://purl.org/coar/version/c_970fb48d4fbd8a85http://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_6501de la-Torre, ARios-Cadavid, A CCardozo-García, C MGomez-Marín, J E10336/27755oai:repository.urosario.edu.co:10336/277552021-06-03 00:50:18.703https://repository.urosario.edu.coRepositorio institucional EdocURedocur@urosario.edu.co
