A DNA barcode for land plants

DNA barcoding involves sequencing a standard region of DNA as a tool for species identification. However, there has been no agreement on which region(s) should be used for barcoding land plants. To provide a community recommendation on a standard plant barcode, we have compared the performance of 7...

However, there has been no agreement on which region(s) should be used for barcoding land plants. To provide a community recommendation on a standard plant barcode, we have compared the performance of 7 leading candidate plastid DNA regions (atpF–atpH spacer, matK gene, rbcL gene, rpoB gene, rpoC1 gene, psbK–psbI spacer, and trnH–psbA spacer). Based on assessments of recoverability, sequence quality, and levels of species discrimination, we recommend the 2-locus combination of rbcL matK as the plant barcode. This core 2-locus barcode will provide a universal framework for the routine use of DNA sequence data to identify specimens and contribute toward the discovery of overlooked species of land plants.application/pdfhttps://doi.org/10.1073/pnas.0905845106ISSN: 0027-8424EISSN: 1091-6490https://repository.urosario.edu.co/handle/10336/27409engProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America12797No. 3112794Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of AmericaVol. 106Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America, ISSN: 0027-8424; EISSN: 1091-6490, Vol.106, No.31 (2009); pp. 12794 –12797https://www.pnas.org/content/pnas/106/31/12794.full.pdfAbierto (Texto Completo)http://purl.org/coar/access_right/c_abf2Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of Americainstname:Universidad del Rosarioreponame:Repositorio Institucional EdocURMitochondrialBarcodingA DNA barcode for land plantsUn código de barras de ADN para plantas terrestresarticleArtículohttp://purl.org/coar/version/c_970fb48d4fbd8a85http://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_6501Richardson, James-EdwardErickson, David L.Burgess, KevinLong, David G.10336/27409oai:repository.urosario.edu.co:10336/274092021-10-07 23:33:58.852https://repository.urosario.edu.coRepositorio institucional EdocURedocur@urosario.edu.co
