However, there are often major discrepancies in the pace of implementation of genomic medicine between developed and developing/resource-limited countries. The main reason does not only lie in the limitation of resources but also in the slow pace of adoption of the new findings and the poor understanding of the potential that this new discipline offers to rationalize medical diagnosis and treatment. Here, we present and critically discuss examples from the successful implementation of genomic medicine in resource-limited countries, focusing on pharmacogenomics, genome informatics, and public health genomics, emphasizing in the latter case genomic education, stakeholder analysis, and economics in pharmacogenomics. These examples can be considered as model cases and be readily replicated for the wide implementation of pharmacogenomics and genomic medicine in other resource-limited environments. © 2015 Mitropoulos et al.application/pdfhttps://doi.org/10.1186/s40246-015-0033-31473-9542https://repository.urosario.edu.co/handle/10336/21728engNo. 1Human GenomicsVol. 9Human Genomics, ISSN: 1473-9542 Vol. 9, No. 1 (2015)https://humgenomics.biomedcentral.com/track/pdf/10.1186/s40246-015-0033-3Abierto (Texto Completo)http://purl.org/coar/access_right/c_abf2instname:Universidad del Rosarioreponame:Repositorio Institucional EdocURAnálisis de rentabilidadPaís en desarrolloEvaluación económicaMapeo de genesSistema de cuidado de la saludHumanoInformática médicaEvolución & genética575600Cost effectiveness analysisDeveloping countryEconomic evaluationGene mappingHealth care systemHumanMedical informaticsGenética humanaGenética médicaSalud públicaSuccess stories in genomic medicine from resource-limited countriesarticleArtículohttp://purl.org/coar/version/c_970fb48d4fbd8a85http://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_6501Mitropoulos, KonstantinosJaibeji, Hayat AlForero, Diego A.Laissue, PaulWonkam, AmbroiseLopez-Correa, CatalinaMohamed, ZahurinChantratita, WasunMichael Lee, Ming TaLlerena, AdrianBrand, AngelaAli, Bassam R.Patrinos, George P.Mitropoulos, KonstantinosAl Jaibeji, HayatForero, Diego A.Laissue, PaulWonkam, AmbroiseLopez-Correa, CatalinaMohamed, ZahurinChantratita, WassunLee, Ming Ta MichaelLlerena, AmbroiseBrand, AngelaAli, Bassam R.Patrinos, George P.ORIGINALSuccess_stories_in_genomic_medicine_from_resource-limited_countries.pdfapplication/pdf450246https://repository.urosario.edu.co/bitstreams/8f9f51d5-63b5-4b0f-a1e0-2aea847f6bfc/download8a7bd515cb91cd03b60584b2a3cae26fMD51TEXTSuccess_stories_in_genomic_medicine_from_resource-limited_countries.pdf.txtSuccess_stories_in_genomic_medicine_from_resource-limited_countries.pdf.txtExtracted texttext/plain42759https://repository.urosario.edu.co/bitstreams/419543fb-8312-4014-b754-205405a57d42/download72c4e65dc2742e584da987502c8f0153MD52THUMBNAILSuccess_stories_in_genomic_medicine_from_resource-limited_countries.pdf.jpgSuccess_stories_in_genomic_medicine_from_resource-limited_countries.pdf.jpgGenerated Thumbnailimage/jpeg4535https://repository.urosario.edu.co/bitstreams/88556a55-8138-49c9-85e1-15255b431c66/download40a90e72ac24263ab71add2d9ad8c7ccMD5310336/21728oai:repository.urosario.edu.co:10336/217282020-05-13 14:48:31.848https://repository.urosario.edu.coRepositorio institucional EdocURedocur@urosario.edu.co
