This research analyses and evaluates the features of regional energy use and efficiency across Colombian departments in the manufacturing industries for the period between 2005 and 2013 by applying two Malmquist data envelopment analysis models. The results indicate significant difference in energy use and efficiency across Colombian departments in the manufacturing industries. The results of the Malmquist indexes determine that various manufacturing industries across Colombian departments have a high potential to increase energy efficiency. Several manufacturing industries across Colombian departments have experienced gains in productivity, a growth in efficiency, an improvement in the relationship between inputs and outputs and scale production and advances in innovation through new technologies. This technique allows to make comparisons and improves energy policies to increase energy efficiency and decrease CO2 emissions. The application of panel data models indicate that increases in energy prices, exports and productivity lead to better energy use, while a higher presence of energy intensive sectors and small and medium enterprises across Colombian departments reduce energy efficiency. The methods selected in this research generated consistent, robust and reliable estimates related to energy use and CO2 emissions for regional studies. The findings of this study indicate that diverse energy policies should implement in the industrial sector across Colombian departments and that they should contribute to improvements in energy use, especially in small and medium companies and energy intensive sectors. © 2015 Elsevier Ltd.application/pdfhttps://doi.org/10.1016/j.jclepro.2015.12.0199596526https://repository.urosario.edu.co/handle/10336/22290engElsevier Ltd138130Journal of Cleaner ProductionVol. 115Journal of Cleaner Production, ISSN:9596526, Vol.115,(2016); pp. 130-138https://www.scopus.com/inward/record.uri?eid=2-s2.0-84954286193&doi=10.1016%2fj.jclepro.2015.12.019&partnerID=40&md5=eb92a17b340928daa3cb6dc4c8c77ac5Abierto (Texto Completo)http://purl.org/coar/access_right/c_abf2instname:Universidad del Rosarioreponame:Repositorio Institucional EdocURCarbon dioxideData envelopment analysisEnergy policyEnergy utilizationIndustrial researchManufactureProductivityRegional planningTelecommunication industryColombiansData envelopment analysis modelsEnergy useEnergy-intensive sectorsManufacturing industriesNon-parametric studiesPanel data modelsSmall and medium enterpriseEnergy efficiencyColombian departmentsData envelopment analysisEnergy usePanel data modelsRegional analysis across Colombian departments: A non-parametric study of energy usearticleArtículohttp://purl.org/coar/version/c_970fb48d4fbd8a85http://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_6501Pardo Martínez, Clara InésAlfonso Piña W.H.ORIGINAL1-s2-0-S0959652615018430-main.pdfapplication/pdf604596https://repository.urosario.edu.co/bitstreams/0c3d8e73-1bc3-4d0e-9c4a-2f32f52f33ce/download58cc4ee9281323b7976da99213cca30dMD51TEXT1-s2-0-S0959652615018430-main.pdf.txt1-s2-0-S0959652615018430-main.pdf.txtExtracted texttext/plain58093https://repository.urosario.edu.co/bitstreams/9299c8bd-b424-43a1-ae5e-9111053b0c7b/download44db299bc371922aa56fb989e401cc53MD52THUMBNAIL1-s2-0-S0959652615018430-main.pdf.jpg1-s2-0-S0959652615018430-main.pdf.jpgGenerated Thumbnailimage/jpeg4727https://repository.urosario.edu.co/bitstreams/d557efdb-5eeb-47a1-ba9e-32838a7c38ca/download133cd73e936c8564aa3ad124d54dc944MD5310336/22290oai:repository.urosario.edu.co:10336/222902022-05-02 07:37:16.981137https://repository.urosario.edu.coRepositorio institucional EdocURedocur@urosario.edu.co |
