Influence of a medium-impact exercise program on health-related quality of life and cardiorespiratory fitness in females with subclinical hypothyroidism: an open-label pilot study

Objective. To examine the influence of a medium-impact exercise program (MIEP) on health-related quality of life (HRQoL) and cardiorespiratory fitness (VO2 max) in females with subclinical hypothyroidism (sHT). Materials and Methods. We selected 17 sedentary women with sHT (mean age: 43.1 (standard...

Materials and Methods. We selected 17 sedentary women with sHT (mean age: 43.1 (standard deviation: 9.7) years). Participants carried out an MIEP consisting of 3 weekly sessions of 60 minutes during 12 weeks. Before and after the exercise program HRQoL was assessed by the SF-12v2 questionnaire, and VO2 max was evaluated by Rockport walk test. Results. After the 12-week intervention, the participants that performed an MIEP showed improvements in HRQoL in most domains, particularly the vitality domain by 7 points, the social functioning domain by 10 points, the mental health domain by 7 points, and the mental component summary by 7 points. One of the four domains within the physical component summary (general health domain) showed significant effect of the exercise intervention: 6 points. Moreover, the participants that performed exercise showed a higher VO2 max (28%; ?? < 0.01). Conclusion. After 12 weeks of medium-impact exercise program, there were remarkable improvements in HRQoL in most domains. Moreover, this exercise program proved to have a positive influence on cardiorespiratory fitness.application/pdfhttps://doi.org/10.1155/2013/592801ISSN: 2090-8067EISSN: 2042-0072https://repository.urosario.edu.co/handle/10336/27867engHindawi Publishing CorporationJournal of Thyroid ResearchVol. 2013Journal of Thyroid Research, ISSN: 2090-8067;EISSN: 2042-0072, Vol.2013 (2013); 5 pp. http://downloads.hindawi.com/journals/jtr/2013/592801.pdfAbierto (Texto Completo)http://purl.org/coar/access_right/c_abf2Journal of Thyroid Researchinstname:Universidad del Rosarioreponame:Repositorio Institucional EdocURMIEP medium-impact exercise programHealthFemaleTSHInfluence of a medium-impact exercise program on health-related quality of life and cardiorespiratory fitness in females with subclinical hypothyroidism: an open-label pilot studyInfluencia de un programa de ejercicio de impacto medio en la calidad de vida relacionada con la salud y la aptitud cardiorrespiratoria en mujeres con hipotiroidismo subclínico: un estudio piloto abiertoarticleArtículohttp://purl.org/coar/version/c_970fb48d4fbd8a85http://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_6501Garces-Arteaga, AndreaNieto-Garcia, NatalySuarez-Sanchez, FreddyTriana-Reina, Héctor ReynaldoRamírez-Vélez, RobinsonORIGINAL592801.pdfapplication/pdf1297209https://repository.urosario.edu.co/bitstreams/3b27fd28-5ca4-4cc7-8dba-9b561ff3f854/download348670dc68e36aa6e8639279068d791dMD51TEXT592801.pdf.txt592801.pdf.txtExtracted texttext/plain26869https://repository.urosario.edu.co/bitstreams/643e53c7-5295-4166-b2d5-1c4788645dd2/download4c306bcae7c12f4d1275fe10b2f1ff93MD52THUMBNAIL592801.pdf.jpg592801.pdf.jpgGenerated Thumbnailimage/jpeg4317https://repository.urosario.edu.co/bitstreams/6e7fa9de-00b5-4e8d-bbb6-ffdd8f95cce0/downloada03e27423a8c27e28355f0c8928cb354MD5310336/27867oai:repository.urosario.edu.co:10336/278672022-05-02 07:37:21.945181https://repository.urosario.edu.coRepositorio institucional EdocURedocur@urosario.edu.co
