It leads to endothelial dysfunction and atherogenesis through pro-inflammatory mechanisms, as much as or more important than hyperglycaemia, with the aggravating factor of inducing arrhythmogenic and ischaemic sudden death. Conclusion Hypoglycaemia is a real threat for the myocardium, not only due to its immediate pro-arrhythmic effects, that may be associated with sudden death syndrome, but also due to the pro-inflammatory and atherogenic effects. These are all significant risk factors for the development of cardiovascular disease, making it desirable, and clinically relevant to prevent hypoglycaemic episodes of any intensity and duration in any type of diabetic patient. This is particularly important in those that have a pathological myocardial substrate that can lead to an increase in the risk of sudden death: compromised systole function, ventricular arrhythmias, atrial fibrillation, coronary disease, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, arrhythmogenic genotype, and a history of resuscitation. © 2017 Sociedad Colombiana de Cardiología y Cirugía Cardiovascularapplication/pdfhttps://doi.org/10.1016/j.rccar.2016.12.0021205633https://repository.urosario.edu.co/handle/10336/22997engElsevier B.V.381No. 4376Revista Colombiana de CardiologiaVol. 24Revista Colombiana de Cardiologia, ISSN:1205633, Vol.24, No.4 (2017); pp. 376-381https://www.scopus.com/inward/record.uri?eid=2-s2.0-85019463818&doi=10.1016%2fj.rccar.2016.12.002&partnerID=40&md5=2000ba19e11420c819402e86547a924eAbierto (Texto Completo)http://purl.org/coar/access_right/c_abf2instname:Universidad del Rosarioreponame:Repositorio Institucional EdocURInsulinArrhythmogenesisAtherogenesisAtrial fibrillationCardiac muscleCardiovascular diseaseCardiovascular effectCardiovascular riskCoronary artery diseaseDiabetes mellitusDiabetic patientDisease durationEndothelial dysfunctionHeart ventricle arrhythmiaHumanHypertrophic cardiomyopathyHypoglycemiaLife threatResuscitationShort surveySudden cardiac deathSystolic dysfunctionArrhythmiasGlucoseMyocardiumVascularCardiac impact of hypoglycaemiaImpacto cardiovascular de la hipoglicemiaarticleArtículohttp://purl.org/coar/version/c_970fb48d4fbd8a85http://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_6501de León Espitia, Marco AntonioORIGINAL1-s2-0-S0120563317300347.pdfapplication/pdf604536https://repository.urosario.edu.co/bitstreams/1d620a42-ad78-4745-8c5f-8b6caf1fbd1b/downloadd19406105a17f1a86fb8b7e8e7ddb5e6MD51TEXT1-s2-0-S0120563317300347.pdf.txt1-s2-0-S0120563317300347.pdf.txtExtracted texttext/plain32922https://repository.urosario.edu.co/bitstreams/7ea2111f-58ec-43f3-b068-e7ffd52da232/downloadcf95974b433c94763401d61ad6bd6ff9MD52THUMBNAIL1-s2-0-S0120563317300347.pdf.jpg1-s2-0-S0120563317300347.pdf.jpgGenerated Thumbnailimage/jpeg4404https://repository.urosario.edu.co/bitstreams/91e2a7c0-5517-429f-bb12-9a9b131280ac/download90a4b44894c85da7c96f33d7a254c55cMD5310336/22997oai:repository.urosario.edu.co:10336/229972022-05-02 07:37:14.437927https://repository.urosario.edu.coRepositorio institucional EdocURedocur@urosario.edu.co |
