The aim of the study was to analyze the characteristics of active commuting to and from school by bicycle and to identify the factors associated with the use of bicycles for active commuting to school based in a sample of schoolchildren in Bogotá, Colombia. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted in 8,057 children and adolescents. A self-reported questionnaire was used to measure frequency and mode of commuting to school and the time it took them to get there. Weight, height, and waist circumference measurements were obtained using standardized methods, and mothers and fathers self-reported their highest level of educational attainment and household level. Multivariate analyses using unordered multinomial logistic regression models were conducted in the main analysis. Results: 21.9 % of the sample reported commuting by bicycle and 7.9 % reported commuting for more than 120 min. The multivariate logistic regression showed that boys, aged 9–12 years, and those whose parents had achieved higher levels of education (university/postgraduate) were the factors most strongly associated with a use bicycles as a means of active commuting to and from school. Conclusion: The findings of this study suggest that it’s necessary to promote ACS from childhood and to emphasize its use during the transition to adolescence and during adolescence itself in order to increase its continued use by students.application/pdf1824-7288http://repository.urosario.edu.co/handle/10336/14439engRevista Italiana de PediatríaRevista Italiana de Pediatríahttps://ijponline.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.1186/s13052-016-0304-1Abierto (Texto Completo)https://www.biomedcentral.com/about/policies/advertising-policyhttp://www.sherpa.ac.uk/romeo/issn/1824-7288/es/http://purl.org/coar/access_right/c_abf2instname:Universidad del Rosarioreponame:Repositorio Institucional EdocURPhysical ActivityFactors AssociatedActive CommutingSchooIncidencia & prevención de la enfermedad614600Actividad motoraDeportes escolaresPromoción de la saludFactors associated with active commuting to school by bicycle from Bogotá, Colombia: The FUPRECOL studyarticleArtículohttp://purl.org/coar/version/c_970fb48d4fbd8a85http://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_6501Ramírez-Vélez, RobinsonBeltrán, CesarCorrea Bautista, Jorge EnriquePrieto-Benavides, Daniel HumbertoMartínez Torres, JavierVivas, AndrésTriana Reina, Héctor ReynaldoVilla González, EmilioGarcía-Hermoso, AntonioRamírez-Vélez, RobinsonBeltrán, Cesar AugustoCorrea Bautista, Jorge EnriqueVivas, AndrésPrieto-Benavides, Daniel HumbertoMartínez Torres, JavierTriana Reina, Héctor ReynaldoVilla González, EmilioGarcía-Hermoso, AntonioORIGINALPDF11.pdfapplication/pdf593742https://repository.urosario.edu.co/bitstreams/faaca420-6f2b-4986-a5ce-303bc9d5ebbf/download83831ca52bbaee0b88115dc63990c6c7MD51TEXTPDF11.pdf.txtPDF11.pdf.txtExtracted texttext/plain46926https://repository.urosario.edu.co/bitstreams/369a0c91-b1c1-42fd-9cff-60d23a63a8ff/download73e0b12ceb72aba8dc98c663d4b7c9e6MD56THUMBNAILPDF11.pdf.jpgPDF11.pdf.jpgGenerated Thumbnailimage/jpeg4483https://repository.urosario.edu.co/bitstreams/0bff60ec-8786-4c8a-8deb-e0236554dafd/downloadf8a5aac6b84d2dea6ce69a528cd2faa2MD5710336/14439oai:repository.urosario.edu.co:10336/144392019-09-19 07:38:03.190837http://www.sherpa.ac.uk/romeo/issn/1824-7288/es/https://repository.urosario.edu.coRepositorio institucional EdocURedocur@urosario.edu.co |
