Despite Australian national and federal frameworks providing for the inclusion of Indigenous Australians’ objectives in planning frameworks, water plans have rarely addressed these objectives in water, or the strategies to achieve them. Indeed, insufficient resources, a lack of institutional capacity in both Indigenous communities and agencies and an inadequate understanding of Indigenous people's objectives in water management have limited the extent to which Indigenous objectives are addressed in water plans within the Murray–Darling Basin. In this context, the adoption of specific guidelines to meet Indigenous requirements in relation to basin water resources is crucial to support Indigenous engagement in water planning processes. Using insights from participatory planning methods and human rights frameworks, this article outlines a set of alternative and collaborative guidelines to improve Indigenous involvement in water planning and to promote sustainable and just water allocations. © 2016 Elsevier B.V.application/pdfhttps://doi.org/10.1016/j.jhydrol.2016.09.050221694https://repository.urosario.edu.co/handle/10336/22371engElsevier B.V.835828Journal of HydrologyVol. 542Journal of Hydrology, ISSN:221694, Vol.542,(2016); pp. 828-835https://www.scopus.com/inward/record.uri?eid=2-s2.0-84994531562&doi=10.1016%2fj.jhydrol.2016.09.050&partnerID=40&md5=c460cf535a80110c5efffd32be9c1526Abierto (Texto Completo)http://purl.org/coar/access_right/c_abf2instname:Universidad del Rosarioreponame:Repositorio Institucional EdocURSocial aspectsWater managementCultural assessmentsHuman rightsIndigenous water interestsParticipatory approachPlanning toolsWater planningWater resourcesCultural changeGuidelineHuman rightsIndigenous populationParticipatory approachRegulatory frameworkResource allocationSustainable developmentWater managementWater planningWater resourceAustraliaMurray-Darling BasinCultural assessmentsHuman rights approachIndigenous water interestsParticipatory approachPlanning toolsWater planningGuidelines for inclusion: Ensuring Indigenous peoples’ involvement in water planning processes across South Eastern AustraliaarticleArtículohttp://purl.org/coar/version/c_970fb48d4fbd8a85http://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_6501Saenz Quitian A.Rodríguez, Gloria AmparoORIGINAL1-s2-0-S0022169416306175-main.pdfapplication/pdf301485https://repository.urosario.edu.co/bitstreams/2f34cae7-7964-4655-a739-9172c0870522/downloadb7b51ee4d53bdbd086905057fdf6b236MD51TEXT1-s2-0-S0022169416306175-main.pdf.txt1-s2-0-S0022169416306175-main.pdf.txtExtracted texttext/plain54051https://repository.urosario.edu.co/bitstreams/2510b3b0-0aae-43eb-ba88-d5171d872bf9/downloadb716f00b7ef5f76cb93ef95631d395d8MD52THUMBNAIL1-s2-0-S0022169416306175-main.pdf.jpg1-s2-0-S0022169416306175-main.pdf.jpgGenerated Thumbnailimage/jpeg4636https://repository.urosario.edu.co/bitstreams/c82a7302-6c5e-4e22-b46a-26a258c83e93/download5d7f2443e949e3fca099869e49782967MD5310336/22371oai:repository.urosario.edu.co:10336/223712022-05-02 07:37:17.208112https://repository.urosario.edu.coRepositorio institucional EdocURedocur@urosario.edu.co
