Individuals who have participated in war-related violence tend to show an increased risk of mental health problems, which makes their readaptation to postconflict civilian life much more difficult. This study is the first systematic attempt to evaluate whether war experiences are potentially related to empathic deficit among veterans. Based on a sample of 624 demobilized ex-guerrillas and ex-paramilitaries from the Colombian armed conflict, we identify 3 clearly distinct empathic profiles, suggesting that, while lack of empathy is not generalized among ex-combatants, there is an important subgroup of veterans who present such a dispositional profile. Identification of this critical subgroup will be crucial to policies aimed at assisting postconflict reintegration efforts.application/pdfhttps://doi.org/10.1037/pac0000255ISSN: 1078-1919EISSN: 1532-7949https://repository.urosario.edu.co/handle/10336/27814engThe American Psychological Association426No. 4422Peace and ConflictVol. 23Peace and Conflict, ISSN: 1078-1919;EISSN: 1532-7949, Vol.23, No.4 (November 2017); pp. 422–426https://psycnet.apa.org/record/2017-27608-001Restringido (Acceso a grupos específicos)http://purl.org/coar/access_right/c_16ecPeace and Conflictinstname:Universidad del Rosarioreponame:Repositorio Institucional EdocUREmpathic dispositionsInterpersonalReactivity IndexLatent class cluster analysisEx-combatantsColombian armed conflictHow empathic are war veterans? an examination of the psychological impacts of combat exposure¿Cuán empáticos son los veteranos de guerra? un examen de los impactos psicológicos de la exposición al combatearticleArtículohttp://purl.org/coar/version/c_970fb48d4fbd8a85http://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_6501Trujillo, Sandra P.Trujillo, NataliaUgarriza Uribe, Juan EstebanUribe, Luz H.Pineda, David A.Aguirre-Acevedo, Daniel C.Ibanez, AgustinDecety, JeanGarcia-Barrera, Mauricio A.10336/27814oai:repository.urosario.edu.co:10336/278142021-11-03 06:57:35.592https://repository.urosario.edu.coRepositorio institucional EdocURedocur@urosario.edu.co |
