La creciente evidencia en los últimos años ha demostrado un fuerte vínculo con las enfermedades albuminúricas (proteinúricas) y la presión arterial alta (HTA), factores de riesgo que, cuando se integran en una sola clasificación, nos ofrecen una nueva forma de definir y clasificar la ERC, que además de mostrar La gravedad de la enfermedad también sugiere un valor pronóstico según el nivel de albuminuria (proteinuria) y HTA.
