The causal agent of CDV can infect canines of all ages and breeds, with puppies being more predisposed; the dissemination is carried out through biological secretions, the entrance door being the upper respiratory epithelium, hitting mainly the lymphocytes and macrophages, discovering as a result a strong immunosuppression. The clinical signs presented are frequent in the respiratory, gastrointestinal, and central nervous systems. The virus is easily transmitted between susceptible hosts and the canine remains the most important reservoir of infection, becoming the most well-known, feared and most prevalent viral disease in canines, causing more morbidity and mortality than any other virus in canines1.
