Haplotypes in CCR5-CCR2, CCL3 and CCL5 are associated with natural resistance to HIV-1 infection in a Colombian cohort.

Introduction: Variants in genes encoding for HIV-1 co-receptors and their natural ligands have been individually associated to natural resistance to HIV-1 infection. However, the simultaneous presence of these variants has been poorly studied.

Haplotypes in CCR5-CCR2, CCL3 and CCL5 are associated with natural resistance to HIV-1 infection in a Colombian cohort. Biomédica, 37(2), 267-273. doi: http://dx.doi.org/10.7705/biomedica.v37i3.3237Introduction: Variants in genes encoding for HIV-1 co-receptors and their natural ligands have been individually associated to natural resistance to HIV-1 infection. However, the simultaneous presence of these variants has been poorly studied. Results: Homozygosis of the human haplogroup (HH) E was absent in controls and frequent in cases, showing a tendency to susceptibility. The haplotypes C-C and T-T in CCL3 were associated with susceptibility (p’=0.016) and resistance (p’<0.0001) to HIV-1 infection, respectively. Finally, in multilocus analysis, the haplotype combinations formed by HHC in CCR5-CCR2, T-T in CCL3 and G-C in CCL5 were associated with resistance (p’=0.006). Conclusion: Our results suggest that specific combinations of variants in genes from the same signaling pathway can define an HIV-1 resistant phenotype. Despite our small sample size, our statistically significant associations suggest strong effects; however, these results should be further validated in larger cohorts.Universidad Cooperativa de Colombia, Facultad de Ciencias de la Salud, Medicina, Medellín y EnvigadoMedicinaMedellíndoi: http://dx.doi.org/10.7705/biomedica.v37i3.3237HIV-1ColombiaHaplotypesPhenotypeInnateImunityHaplotypes in CCR5-CCR2, CCL3 and CCL5 are associated with natural resistance to HIV-1 infection in a Colombian cohort.Artículohttp://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_6501http://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_2df8fbb1http://purl.org/coar/version/c_970fb48d4fbd8a85info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersioninfo:eu-repo/semantics/openAccesshttp://purl.org/coar/access_right/c_abf2PublicationORIGINALHaplotypes in CCR5_CCR2 UdeA UCC.pdfHaplotypes in CCR5_CCR2 UdeA UCC.pdfapplication/pdf118610https://repository.ucc.edu.co/bitstreams/fc871103-5b2d-40be-9143-403eff87379f/downloadc9dbb98c14fda896376818a847ab9fbdMD51Licencia de uso_articulo Biomedica.pdfLicencia de uso_articulo Biomedica.pdfapplication/pdf396868https://repository.ucc.edu.co/bitstreams/b8de6ce0-29f2-4641-9937-25c27dfaa03b/download165dff3ef56f6198ddff8a2f4b3d5ba2MD52LICENSElicense.txtlicense.txttext/plain; charset=utf-84370https://repository.ucc.edu.co/bitstreams/ffad2f5b-dcee-4c74-ac9a-468f55773f3d/download0c2ecb0214a7ab5cedccf07da7cbf46cMD53TEXTHaplotypes in CCR5_CCR2 UdeA UCC.pdf.txtHaplotypes in CCR5_CCR2 UdeA UCC.pdf.txtExtracted texttext/plain29136https://repository.ucc.edu.co/bitstreams/5f52ded7-16b5-4d7c-a413-af02ca7bde61/downloada38b6384577d0436d42f179e340815c3MD54Licencia de uso_articulo Biomedica.pdf.txtLicencia de uso_articulo Biomedica.pdf.txtExtracted texttext/plain5622https://repository.ucc.edu.co/bitstreams/4834a40d-456b-457e-bc3e-c31809a4c080/download2e57c5b907512a2366693866ad6ac2edMD56THUMBNAILHaplotypes in CCR5_CCR2 UdeA UCC.pdf.jpgHaplotypes in CCR5_CCR2 UdeA UCC.pdf.jpgIM Thumbnailimage/jpeg5469https://repository.ucc.edu.co/bitstreams/41ce5f6c-514d-45f7-a940-8b7c49a49223/downloadaf8af97ab6f8fff81bb55c70ea4a36a9MD55Licencia de uso_articulo Biomedica.pdf.jpgLicencia de uso_articulo Biomedica.pdf.jpgIM Thumbnailimage/jpeg5293https://repository.ucc.edu.co/bitstreams/794b030f-9bc4-4ac2-8711-d49f3b9d1ba9/download6f853c254f96dddbb64f489d531519f2MD5720.500.12494/5673oai:repository.ucc.edu.co:20.500.12494/56732024-08-10 22:45:15.473open.accesshttps://repository.ucc.edu.coRepositorio Institucional Universidad Cooperativa de Colombiabdigital@metabiblioteca.com
