Osteoarthritis (OA), a degenerative joint disease, is one of the pathologies with the highest clinical incidence in companion animals that is not associated with breed, sex or age. It is a multifactorial process characterized by being progressive and debilitating while decreasing the quality of life of patients and, since it has no cure, the only goal in treating it is to reduce the pain it causes. In this disease, is the degeneration of the articular cartilage what produces chronic pain which is the treatable part of the disease, is for that part that palliative treatments have been implemented with analgesic drugs such as meloxicam, ketoprofen or carprofen, but its use for a long time ends up causing adverse effects and compromising the health of the patient even more; for that reason the present literature review is being made, to search for alternative treatments for the management of OA and obtain more theorical bases on the therapeutic implementation of botulinum toxin A (BoNT/A) for the management of chronic pain in joint diseases, such as OA, thanks to information collected from different databases, where the favorable effects of the use of BoNT/A in the reduction of chronic pain can be evidenced.Resumen. -- Siglas. -- Introducción. -- Planteamiento del problema. -- Justificación. -- Objetivos. -- Objetivo general. -- Objetivos específicos. -- Marco conceptual. -- Osteoartritis. -- Caracterización de la enfermedad. -- Epidemiología. -- Fenómeno del dolor. -- Manejo del dolor en la OA. -- Cannabis. -- Manejo alimenticio y suplementación. -- Coloide. -- AINE / AIEs.
