description Introduction: A critical part of the Justice and Peace project focuses on findingand identifying victims of forced disappearance in Colombia in order to re-bury them according to local traditions and, generally, to provide full reparation to their families, according to Article 44 (45.5) of Law 975/2005. Methodology: The Forensic Genetics Laboratory of the National Institute of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences, Southwest Regional Office in Cali, makes its contribution to the process of identification by verifying biological kinship relations between the remains exhumed and the biological samples taken from alleged relatives of the victims. Results: Such process of identification is evaluated in this article based on a review of this kind of cases analyzed in the period between October 17, 2008 and June 21, 2012, in order to establish the impact of its contribution and verify its effectiveness. Conclusions: Possible improvements are proposed for guiding cases and for the effectiveness and efficiency in carrying out activities at each stage of the process.

Metodología: el Laboratorio de Genética del Instituto Nacional de Medicina Legal y Ciencias Forenses Regional Suroccidente-Cali hace su aporte en el proceso de identificación genética de los restos óseos exhumados por medio de la verificación de relaciones de parentesco biológico entre dichos restos y muestras biológicas tomadas a presuntos familiares de las víctimas. Resultados: dicho proceso de identificación es evaluado mediante el presente trabajo a partir de la revisión de los casos de este tipo analizados en el periodo comprendido entre el 17 de Octubre del 2008 y el 21 de Junio del 2012 para establecer el impacto de su aporte, verificar su efectividad. Conclusiones: Se postulan posibles mejoras para orientación de los casos y la eficacia y eficiencia del desarrollo de actividades en cada etapa del proceso.Introdução: uma parte fundamental do projeto de Justiça e Paz se centraliza na busca e identificação de vítimas do delito de desaparecimento forçado na Colômbia com o objetivo de voltar a sepultá-las segundo as tradições locais e, em geral, de oferecer uma reparação integral aos familiares conforme o parágrafo 45.5 do artigo 44 da Lei 975 de 2005. Metodologia: o Laboratório de Genética Forense do Instituto Nacional de Medicina Legal e Ciências Forenses, Regional Sudoeste, sede Cali, faz sua contribuição ao processo de identificação com a verificação de relações de parentesco biológico entre os restos exumados e as amostras biológicas tomadas a supostos familiares das vítimas. Resultados: esse processo de identificação é avaliado neste artigo a partir da revisão dos casos desse tipo analisados no período de 17 de outubro de 2008 a 21 de junho de 2012 a fim de estabelecer o impacto de sua contribuição e verificar sua efetividade.
