description	El crecimiento es uno de los objetivos que persiguen las empresas por las ventajas que supone. Sin embargo, un crecimiento muy acelerado puede generar problemas financieros, lo que aconseja adoptar un desarrollo equilibrado o un "crecimiento sostenible", compatible con los recursos necesarios para abor darlo. En este contexto, y dadas las peculiaridades de las cooperativas agrarias que afectan a su expan sión, el objetivo del presente trabajo es conocer la evolución del crecimiento real y sostenible de dichas entidades respecto del experimentado por las empresas capitalistas. Para ello, se ha realizado un estudio con la información, correspondiente al período 2000-2004, de una muestra formada por 49 cooperativas y 701 empresas capitalistas españolas dedicadas a la comercialización de frutas y hortalizas frescas. Los resultados obtenidos confirman que los niveles alcanzados por el ratio de crecimiento sostenible de las sociedades capitalistas son superiores a los de las cooperativas en todos los períodos evaluados

However, very rapid growth can generate financial problems, which is why it is advisable to adopt balanced development or sustainable growth, compatible with the resources necessary to address it. In this context, and given the peculiarities of agricultural cooperatives that affect their expansion, the objective of this paper is to know the evolution of the real and sustainable growth of said entities with respect to that experienced by capitalist companies. For this, a study has been carried out with the information, corresponding to the period 2000 - 2004, of a sample formed by 49 cooperatives and 701 Spanish capitalist companies dedicated to the commercialization of fresh fruits and vegetables.
