El tracto urinario es uno de los sistemas corporales que posee importantes funciones fisiológicas como la actividad excretora de solutos y agua, homeostasis corporal, eliminación de productos metabólicos de desecho como urea, ácido úrico, etc., y regulación del equilibrio de las sustancias necesarias como su función endocrina. Los riñones producen y elimina todo esto a través de la orina, mediante los uréteres, vejiga urinaria y uretra se llevan al exterior. La enfermedad del tracto urinario inferior felina (F.L.U.T.D) es una patología de alta prevalencia en gatos, afecta la vejiga, uréteres y uretra presentando signos clínicos similares en el gato, por lo que resulta difícil la identificación de la etiología subyacente. Puede presentarse en cómo no obstructiva u obstructiva. Algunos de los factores que la predisponen están relacionado con sexo, la esterilización, la edad, las condiciones de vida y la dieta. Los gatos con FLUTD generalmente han reportado la presentación de: cistitis idiopática felina (CIF), infección del tracto urinario (UTI), urolitiasis, tapones uretrales (UP) y neoplasias. Este articulo revisa dos de las causas más importante de F.L.U.T.D: CIF y urolitiasis. |

Este articulo revisa dos de las causas más importante de F.L.U.T.D: CIF y urolitiasis.The urinary tract is one of the body systems that has important physiological functions such as the excretory activity of solutes and water, body homeostasis, elimination of metabolic waste products such as urea, uric acid, etc., and regulation of the balance of necessary substances such as its endocrine function. The kidneys produce and eliminate all this through the urine, through the ureters, urinary bladder and urethra are carried to the outside. Feline lower urinary tract disease (F.L.U.T.D) is a highly prevalent pathology in cats, it affects the bladder, ureters and urethra presenting similar clinical signs in cats, making it difficult to identify the underlying etiology. It can present itself as non-obstructive or obstructive. Some of the predisposing factors are related to sex, sterilization, age, living conditions and diet. Cats with FLUTD have generally reported the presentation of: feline idiopathic cystitis (FIC), urinary tract infection (UTI), urolithiasis, urethral plugs (PU) and neoplasms.
