The book gathers results of more than twenty years of research and experiences of professionals who have provided care to individuals with chronic pain problems and diseases. While the use of hypnosis is controversial because of its association with esotericism and other unscientific practices, taking the approach of health psychology and evidence-based medicine as a starting point helps to overcome the “war between schools”, since the contributions made by different theories to therapeutic practice, are taken into account. In this integration attempt, a promising future can be envisaged so that psychological resources are used daily in hypnosis techniques to enhance pain relief and human well-being. Este libro de investigación tiene como objetivo describir los aportes y limitaciones de la hipnosis como técnica coadyuvante en el tratamiento del dolor, a partir de técnicas que pueden ser usadas en servicios de urgencia, en la atención hospitalaria y en la atención primaria. El libro recoge los resultados de investigaciones y experiencias de más de veinte años de práctica, de profesionales que han trabajando en la atención a personas con enfermedades y problemas de dolor crónico. A pesar de que el uso de la hipnosis resulta polémico por su asociación con el esoterismo y otras prácticas poco científicas, al tomar como punto de partida el enfoque de la psicología de la salud y de la medicina basada en la evidencia, se supera la “guerra entre escuelas”, pues se tienen en cuenta los aportes que desde diferentes teorías se han hecho a la práctica terapéutica.
