Se pretende reportar los hallazgos más importantes sobre la etiología y el manejo de la xerostomía en esta población, por consiguiente, se exponen la función de los sustitutos salivares y otras terapias farmacológicas como tratamiento para la misma. Por último, se concluye que el uso y la investigación de los sustitutos salivares son imprescindibles en Odontología.

These geriatric patients directly suffer from hiposalivation with systemic diseases or indirectly with some medicaments intake. It tries to report the most important findings about the etiology and management of the xerostomin in this population. consequently it shows the functions of the saliva substitutes and other pharmacologic therapies as treatment for the same.
