description La osteoartritis (OA) se caracteriza por afectar la articulación, causa pérdida y disfunción del cartílago articular, atrofia muscular y cambios óseos, causa dolor articular y musculoesquelético, así como discapacidad. Los factores predisponentes incluyen edad, sexo, raza (Pastor Alemán, Rottweiler, Golden Retriever, Labrador Retriever, Boyero de Berna, Mastín, San Bernardo, Dogo de Burdeos, Basset Hound, Border Collie Irish Wolfhound y de razas pequeñas Pomerania, Chihuahua, Yorkshire terrier y Bulldog francés), obesidad y enfermedades subyacentes. Esta enfermedad tiene alto costo económico para el propietario. El importante un correcto diagnóstico de la enfermedad incluyendo el examen clínico, estadiaje (leve, moderado, severo) y ayudas diagnosticas como radiología que es muy útil. Actualmente la terapia multimodal se obtiene mejores resultados pues incluye: manejo no farmacológico, farmacológico, tratamiento regenerativo, quirúrgico y homeopáticos.

Predisposing factors include age, sex, breed (German Shepherd, Rottweiler, Golden Retriever, Labrador Retriever, Bernese Mountain Dog, Mastiff, Saint Bernard, Dogue de Bordeaux, Basset Hound, Border Collie, Irish Wolfhound, and small breed Pomeranian, Chihuahua, Yorkshire terrier and French Bulldog), obesity and underlying diseases. This disease has a high economic cost for the owner. A correct diagnosis of the disease is important, including clinical examination, staging (mild, moderate, severe) and diagnostic aids such as radiology, which is very useful.
