Summary: | This book proposes elements to rethink Latin American integration, using the Common Market of the South (Mercosur) and the Pacific Alliance as case studies. The various chapters of the book explain the reasons why economic regionalism in Latin America maintains a logic of initial advances, setbacks, and stagnation without finally consolidating. In this analysis, four essential variables are considered to understand the complex integration process in the region: the economic model, institutionality, political participation, and leadership. Based on these four variables, the various chapters explain the causes of the difficulties of regional integration in Latin America and in its final chapters future scenarios are proposed. The book is the result of the collaboration of researchers from the Cooperative University of Colombia and the University of the Andes of Venezuela. |
