(1):p. 10-20Introduction: Fibromyalgia has a high prevalence and impairs the physical, psychological and social health of the patients. Objective: To evaluate the impact of fibromyalgia on health status and quality of life in patients of Medellín, and its associated factors. Materials and methods: Cross-sectional study of 100 patients, in whom tthe Medical Outcome Study Short Form (MOSSF-36), the short version of the World Health Organization Quality of Life (WHOQOL-BREF) and the Fibromyalgia Impact Questionnaire (FIQ) were applied. The analyses were performed with proportions, summary measures, a Cronbach, Student t, Mann-Whitney U, ANOVA, Spearman correlations and multiple linear regression. Results: The large majority were females (8% were male) and 44% of low social stratum. Smoking was reported by 9%, alcohol consumption by 8% and sedentary lifestyle by 71%. Almost one-quarter (23%) had osteoarthritis and 16% rheumatoid arthritis. The a Cronbach was greater than 0.7. In the MOSSF-36 scores the highest were higher social function (53.5) and mental health (49.5), and the lowest were physical performance (16.7), body pain (27.2), and emotional function (23.7). The FIQ score was 40.4. The WHOQOL-BREF was 72.7 for social relationships, 72.6 for environment, 70.9 for psychological health, and 43.7 for physical health. The main associated factors were physical activity, social involvement, family relationships, age and education. Conclusion: The worst results were for the physical component, and the best for social. Further deterioration was observed in sedentary lifestyle, without social participation, less schooling and age. This highlights the need for interdisciplinary work to mitigate the negative impacts of disease.
