Los principales síndromes paraneoplásicos que afectan a los caninos generan diversos trastornos como coagulación, coagulación intravascular diseminada (CID), trombocitopenia, anemia, síndrome nefrótico y úlceras estomacales y/o duodenales. La identificación de la neoplasia primaria y/o su metástasis, los signos clínicos y ayudas diagnósticas (laboratoriales, radiografías, ecografía, tomografías) pueden ser empleados por los médicos veterinarios en la actualidad para obtener un diagnóstico más acertado. En los últimos años han aumentado los casos de neoplasias asociadas a la exposición a compuestos químicos llamados disruptores endocrinos que están relacionados con alteraciones en los órganos como tiroides, reproductivos e inmunológicos, dichos compuestos son usados por humanos, pero por su cercanía y contaminación del ambiente afectan las mascotas. El aumento de la popularidad de los perros principalmente como compañía para el humano ha llevado a que más profesionales se dediquen a la oncología veterinaria, especializándose en el diagnóstico y tratamiento (quimioterapia, terapias hormonales, radioterapia, cirugía y otros procedimientos) del cáncer. Algunos de las principales neoplasias caninas que puede provocar síndromes paraneoplásicos son el hemangiosarcoma, linfoma y mastocitoma. |
