description	La demencia es una enfermedad neurodegenerativa que requiere el acompañamiento de un cuidador que se encargue de asistir y supervisar las necesidades básicas y psicosociales. El objetivo de este artículo fue determinar la influencia del cuidador en el declive cognitivo y funcional de pacientes con demencia. El método fue revisión sistemática mediante búsqueda realizada en las bases de datos Scopus, Pubmed y Science Direct entre los años 2010 y 2020. En conclusión, la condición de cuidador informal fue la más reportada por las investigaciones, generalmente asumida por esposas e hijos; las características del cuidador como la personalidad, las interpretaciones subjetivas del estado funcional del adulto con demencia y las estrategias de afrontamiento de los cuidadores se asociaron con la disminución de la tasa de deterioro cognitivo y funcional de las personas con demencia.

The objective of this article was to determine the influence of the caregiver on the cognitive and functional decline of patients with dementia. The method was a systematic review by searching the Scopus, Pubmed and Science Direct databases between the years 2010-2020.
