description Los caninos tienen un papel importante en la estética dental y facial, además de participar en un correcto desarrollo dental, oclusal y funcional. Las alteraciones eruptivas de los caninos pueden causar problemas estéticos y funcionales, el enfoque del tratamiento de los caninos retenidos generalmente se direcciona en tres fases: diagnóstico y tratamiento temprano, quirúrgica y por último una fase ortodóntica. Uno de los métodos fundamentales en la evaluación del éxito de tratamiento de caninos impactados es el estado periodontal final. El objetivo de la presente revisión es establecer el comportamiento de los tejidos periodontales durante la tracción de caninos impactados y así determinar los elementos necesarios a tener en cuenta durante planeación integral para el logro de una terapia exitosa.
