However it has difficulties that could be improved by using Umbilical Cord Blood (UCB). UCB is an important source of HSC that can be acquired fast, easily, without risk for the donor, with less histocompatibility (HLA) restriction, higher acceptance and less transmission of infective diseases. Furthermore, HSC from UCB have higher potential of expansion and proliferation than those from bone marrow. An UCB Public Bank has available cells for anyone who would need them. In addition, the previous hand tipification, simplifies not related compatible donations. The lacking of bone marrow donor networks in Colombia and the high amount of annual births creates the need and opportunity to set an UCB public bank that would improve the odds for possible receptors from ethnic minorities.8 p.application/pdfspaUniversidad Cooperativa de Colombia, Facultad de Ciencias de la Salud, Medicina, Medellín y EnvigadoBucaramangahttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessAttribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 Internationalhttp://purl.org/coar/access_right/c_abf2https://revistas.uis.edu.co/index.php/revistasaluduis/article/view/553¿Por qué un banco público de células madre de sangre de cordon umbilical en Colombia?Artículohttp://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_6501http://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_2df8fbb1http://purl.org/coar/version/c_970fb48d4fbd8a85info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionhttps://revistas.uis.edu.co/index.php/revistasaluduis/article/view/55392 p.Número 285 p.Vol. 37Salud UISArmitage J.
