El saneamiento básico y ambiental se compone de estrategias de limpieza y desinfección desarrolladas en el ambiente que repercuten de manera directa en la salud de la población. La mejora en las estrategias de saneamiento no solo favorece el estado de salud de la población mundial, sino que representa además una disminución importante en los costos de la atención en salud, un aumento en productividad pues los recursos pueden ser invertidos en otras estrategias y, por supuesto, menos muertes prematuras. Esta lectura crítica pretende exponer los beneficios del mejoramiento en el saneamiento básico y ambiental, así como los desafíos a los que se enfrentan los profesionales en salud, en especial, en países “pobres”, donde las condiciones en salubridad son deficientes y estas se ven reflejadas en el estado de salud de sus comunidades. |
