description	Un quiste puede definirse como un espacio patológico revestido de epitelio; los quistes del maxilar, mandíbula y regiones peribucales varían notablemente en su histogénesis, frecuencia, evolución y tratamiento. Estas lesiones que adoptan un aspecto de bolsa cerrada, suelen estar revestidos con una membrana y contener sustancia liquida o semilíquida el liquido de su interior puede ser excretado por células que tapizan la cavidad o proceder de liquido tisular, puede ser claro o turbio, fluido o acuoso, espeso o cremoso y puede contener cristales de colesterol. El quiste dentígero es una lesión del desarrollo que está relacionada con la corona de un diente no erupcionado o en desarrollo el cual se encuentra unido al cuello dental (unión esmalte- cemento). Es muy común encontrarlo en dientes que poseen problemas de retardo en la erupción o problemas de impactación, tales como los terceros molares y caninos maxilares, si su diagnostico no es realizado a tiempo, este puede evolucionar a lesiones de características más agresivas.
