Estos sistemas tienen un bajo impacto estético, además de ser capaces de guiar los dientes de manera efectiva y progresiva a sus posiciones programadas. (1,2,3) Objetivo: Reconocer el tratamiento de alineadores como una opción de ortodoncia estética a partir de la elaboración, utilización y la efectividad de estos, con el fin de ayudar a los ortodoncistas a entender este tipo de sistema, el cual puede ser es el futuro de la ortodoncia. Materiales y métodos: Se realizó la búsqueda de información en las bases de datos científicas para encontrar evidencia desde 2000 a 2020, esta búsqueda fue realizada en las bases de datos electrónicas como PubMed, Scopus, Google Scholar y los website de revistas indexadas. Resultados: Se obtuvo información sobre los materiales mas utilizados en alineadores, su elaboración y la planificación de este tipo tratamiento, además se realizó una descripción de limitaciones, ventajas, desventajas, efectividad y estabilidad. Conclusión: La elaboración y planificación del tratamiento con alineadores es un proceso que requiere tiempo y experiencia para lograr resultados predecibles y satisfactorios para los pacientes con fines funcionales y estéticos.
