description Las problemáticas que presentan las comunidades rurales en relación con pobreza, agua potable, saneamiento, educación, infraestructura entre otras han venido afectando el buen desarrollo de las actividades económicas en las zonas rurales, lo que ocasiona un lento desarrollo rural sostenible. Este trabajo tiene como objetivo presentar la investigación de revisión sistemática de literatura que se realizó sobre los principales elementos que definen las actividades económicas en las zonas rurales, el cual se desarrolló en IV fases: Búsqueda y selección de la información, Lectura Analítica de la Información Seleccionada, Levantamientos de Información y Análisis de Datos, y Representación de la Información. Los resultados indicaron que las dimensiones consumo y producción, desarrollo social sostenible, disponibilidad y preservación recursos naturales, gestión político – institucional e infraestructura rural sostenible, son los elementos que definen las actividades económicas en las zonas rurales. Se concluye que los factores social, económico, ambiental, político – institucional e infraestructura interactúan generando un equilibrio que fortalece el desarrollo de las actividades económicas como la agricultura, turismo, silvicultura, apicultura, vinicultura las cuales son unas de las más representativas.
