description El coronavirus felino (FCoV) tiene dos serotipos; el coronavirus entérico felino (FECoV) y el virus peritonitis infecciosa felina (VPIF); este es causante de una enfermedad sistémica letal, afecta animales domésticos y silvestres en todo el mundo, aún se desconoce el momento y sitio exacto en el animal, donde el coronavirus entérico cambia a VPIF; durante este proceso de cambio un 5 a 10% pueden presentar la alteración, esto nos lleva a cuestionarnos y conocer mejor la naturaleza y desarrollo del virus. Los avances tecnológicos y genéticos, han podido desarrollar varios métodos de diagnósticos y tratamientos que han sido efectivos para controlar la enfermedad en los gatos infectados y mejorando así su calidad de vida, con la finalidad de realizar una revisión de literatura actualizada de los temas importante que engloba la PIF.
