Puede presentarse de manera primaria como un tumor genital o secundario, extragenitalmente; no presenta predisposición racial ni sexual y la principal forma de transmisión está relacionada con la actividad sexual (coito), afectando así, principalmente la mucosa exterior de los órganos reproductivos. Posee distribución mundial y su prevalencia es más alta en zonas tropicales y subtropicales, además de zonas altamente habitadas y con pobres condiciones sanitarias y alta incidencia de perros callejeros. La neoplasia tiene forma de coliflor y uno de los síntomas más común independientemente de la localización será las secreciones sanguinolentas y presenta baja capacidad metastásica, donde las apariciones diferentes estarán relacionadas con el comportamiento social del canino o por lamido e implantación de células tumorales secundarias al TVT genital. Su diagnóstico puede ser realizado mediante la información proporcionada por el propietario y los hallazgos durante el examen clínico y corroborados ya sea por citología, histopatología o inmunohistoquímica. El TVT responde efectivamente ante tratamiento con quimioterapia, aun así, su recurrencia dependerá del momento en que se diagnosticó (evolución) y factores propios del paciente; además de ello, de los componentes celulares del tumor. La presente revisión tiene como finalidad comprender más sobre los aspectos clínicos sobre el TVT canino y los avances en su diagnóstico y tratamiento.

It can present itself as a genital or secondary tumor, extragenitally; It does not present racial or sexual predisposition and the main form of transmission is related to sexual activity (intercourse), thus affecting, mainly the outer mucosa of the reproductive organs. It has worldwide distribution and its prevalence is higher in tropical and subtropical zones, as well as highly inhabited areas with poor sanitary conditions and high incidence of stray dogs. The neoplasm is cauliflower-shaped and one of the most common symptoms regardless of location will be bloody secretions and has low metastatic capacity, where the different appearances will be related to the social behavior of the canine or by licking and implantation of tumor cells secondary to TVT genital. Its diagnosis can be made through the information provided by the owner and the findings during the clinical examination and corroborated by cytology, histopathology or immunohistochemistry. The TVT responds effectively to treatment with chemotherapy, even so, its recurrence will depend on the moment in which it was diagnosed (evolution) and the patient's own factors; in addition, the cellular components of the tumor.
