description La parvovirosis canina es una enfermedad infecciosa aguda altamente contagiosa y se ha transmitido durante más de 40 años con una alta tasa de mortalidad en los animales. Actualmente existen tres variantes del virus y dada la rápida evolución estas han generado modificaciones en los tratamientos y pruebas diagnósticas debido a la necesidad de controlar los diferentes cuadros clínicos y formas de presentaciones del agente viral. El diagnóstico temprano y rápido es fundamental para el aislamiento de los animales reduciendo los focos de infección y la alta tasa de mortalidad. La principal limitante terapéutica radica en la ausencia de medicamentos antivirales eficaces y apropiados, por lo cual, aunque no se ha identificado ningún tratamiento definitivo, el régimen terapéutico más universal es la atención sintomática y de apoyo hasta la resolución de los signos clínicos y el fallo de la inmunidad innata y adaptativa combinado con bacteriemia y viremia puede empeorar la respuesta inflamatoria y retrasar la evolución favorable del paciente. Las terapias rigurosas y agresivas durante la hospitalización siguen teniendo efectividad reduciendo los signos clínicos y disminuyendo la tasa de mortalidad de la enfermedad.
