Theories related to responsible production and consumption have emerged as fundamental conceptual frameworks for understanding and effectively addressing these issues. In this context, we will explore five key theories along with their prominent authors, each offering a unique perspective on how to promote more sustainable and ethical practices in production and consumption. The Theory of Conscious Consumption, proposed by Juliet Schor, advocates for a more thoughtful and ethical approach to consumption, challenging the culture of unrestrained consumerism. The Theory of Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR), developed by Thomas Lindhqvist, emphasizes the importance of producers taking responsibility for their products from manufacturing to disposal. The Theory of Circular Economy, endorsed by Ellen MacArthur, advocates for keeping resources in a continuous cycle of use and reuse.
