El virus del distemper canino (CDV), es una enfermedad viral causada por un morbillivirus común en especies domésticas, caninos en edad temprana. El CDV en animales silvestres se ha observado en: cánidos, prociónidos, mustélidos, grandes felinos, etc. Esta enfermedad ha sido informada en Argentina, Chile y Brasil. En Colombia se ha reportado en tres municipios: Pereira, Caldas y Tolima en zorros con cuadros clínicos similares a los registrados en caninos domésticos. Esta preocupación se ha presentado durante la práctica profesional, empresarial, solidaria; desarrollada en el Centro de Atención y Valoración de Fauna Silvestre ubicado en Barbosa, Antioquia, Valle de Aburrá (CAV–AMVA), al momento de atender a los ejemplares de zorros que ingresaron a las instalaciones con signos neurológicos avanzados, confirmándose mediante prueba PCR, siendo la casuística de gran preocupación, representando una amenaza para la fauna de los municipios del área metropolitana y de las instalaciones. Desde el 2021 a junio 2022 veintinueve individuos fueron muestreados, diez de ellos resultaron positivos a la presencia del CDV, es decir, la incidencia aparente de esta enfermedad en el CAV es del 34,5%, siendo esto que, 3 de cada 10 ejemplares que ingresen a las instalaciones, se han encontrado positivos a distemper, es por esto que, se deben de instaurar medidas de prevención, control, políticas, educación ambiental de la tenencia adecuada de animales de compañía, reforzar planes vacunales para las especies ferales (perros - gatos) por parte de los municipios para mitigar este impacto en la fauna silvestre de la región. |

El CDV en animales silvestres se ha observado en: cánidos, prociónidos, mustélidos, grandes felinos, etc. Esta enfermedad ha sido informada en Argentina, Chile y Brasil. En Colombia se ha reportado en tres municipios: Pereira, Caldas y Tolima en zorros con cuadros clínicos similares a los registrados en caninos domésticos. Esta preocupación se ha presentado durante la práctica profesional, empresarial, solidaria; desarrollada en el Centro de Atención y Valoración de Fauna Silvestre ubicado en Barbosa, Antioquia, Valle de Aburrá (CAV–AMVA), al momento de atender a los ejemplares de zorros que ingresaron a las instalaciones con signos neurológicos avanzados, confirmándose mediante prueba PCR, siendo la casuística de gran preocupación, representando una amenaza para la fauna de los municipios del área metropolitana y de las instalaciones. Desde el 2021 a junio 2022 veintinueve individuos fueron muestreados, diez de ellos resultaron positivos a la presencia del CDV, es decir, la incidencia aparente de esta enfermedad en el CAV es del 34,5%, siendo esto que, 3 de cada 10 ejemplares que ingresen a las instalaciones, se han encontrado positivos a distemper, es por esto que, se deben de instaurar medidas de prevención, control, políticas, educación ambiental de la tenencia adecuada de animales de compañía, reforzar planes vacunales para las especies ferales (perros - gatos) por parte de los municipios para mitigar este impacto en la fauna silvestre de la región.Canine distemper virus (CDV) is a viral disease caused by a common morbillivirus in domestic species, canines at an early age. CDV in wild animals has been observed in canids, procyonids, mustelids, big cats, etc. This disease has been reported in Argentina, Chile, and Brazil. In Colombia, it has been reported in three municipalities: Pereira, Caldas, and Tolima in foxes with clinical symptoms like those registered in domestic canines. This concern has arisen during professional, business, and solidarity practice; developed in the Center for Care and Assessment of Wild Fauna located in Barbosa, Antioquia, Valle de Aburrá (CAV-AMVA), at the time of caring for the fox specimens that entered the facilities with advanced neurological signs, confirmed by PCR tests, being the casuistry of great concern, representing a threat to the fauna of the municipalities of the metropolitan area and the facilities. From 2021 to June 2022, twenty-nine individuals were sampled, and ten of them were positive for the presence of CDV, that is, the apparent incidence of this disease in the CAV is 34.5%, which means that 3 out of 10 individuals that enter the facilities have been found positive for distemper, which is why prevention, control, policies and environmental education on the proper ownership of pets must be established, reinforcing vaccination plans for feral individuals (dogs - cats) by municipalities to mitigate this impact on the region's wildlife.1.
